Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between May 9, 2004 and May 22, 2004.

Assault

05-16-04 - A student reported that another student struck him in the mouth with a closed fist. The student did not want Security to pursue the matter.


Theft

05-12-04 - A student reported that his laptop computer was stolen from the groung floor of the Ladd Library. The student left the laptop alone while using another computer. The Apple computer is valued at $3,000.00.

05-14-04 - Computers from two classrooms in Pettengill Hall were reported stolen. Each of the Dell Opit-Plex towers had a value of $1,300.00.

05-20-04 - A student reported having a large amount of cash missing after making a transaction with another individual.

05-21-04 - A student reported that his keg was taken from the lounge area of Small House prior to a blue-slipped event.


Bicycle Theft

05-11-04 - A student reported that her bicycle was stolen from the front porch of Chase House. Officers located the bicycle at the rear of Smith Hall later in the evening.

05-17-04 - A resident of Page Hall reported that her bicycle was stolen from the bike room of Page Hall. The bicycle is an L.L. Bean Evolution mountain bike value at $500.00.


Narcotics Laws

05-12-04 - Five students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws inside of John Bertram Hall..


Liquor Laws

05-13-04 - A resident of Pierce House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

05-13-04 - A resident of Page Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violations of State Liquor Laws.


Liquor policy

05-09-04 - A resident of Moody House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the College Liquor Policy.

05-21-04 - Two pony kegs were confiscated from the common area of Small House.


Criminal Mischief

05-10-04 - Residents of Parker Hall removed a door from the custodians closet and placed a 15" X 7" hole in the hallway wall. The repair cost of the wall is $160.00.

05-13-04 - Officers found a window on the front porch of Pierce House broken. The replacement cost of the window is $199.10.


Neighborhood Complaint

05-21-04 - Lewiston Police responded to 195 Holland Street after receiving complaints of loud music. A warning was issued to the resident.

05-20-04 - Lewiston Police went to 75 Elm Street after receiving complaints from the neighbors. Officers broke up a party and the residents were issued disorderly conduct warnings.
