Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between May 4, 2003 and May 17, 2003.

Liquor Violations

5-10-03 - A student from Smith Hall North was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the liquor law and hard alcohol policy. A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.

5-13-03 - A student from Moody House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the liquor law. A keg was confiscated.

5-14-03 - Two students from Chase House were referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.

5-15-03 - Two students from Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the the hard alcohol policy and liquor law. Two bottles of hard alcohol were confiscated.

5-16-03 - A student from Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the liquor law and hard alcohol policy. One bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.

5-17-03 - A student from Davis House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. One bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.


Drug Related Violations

5-07-03 - A student from Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for drug related violations. A usable amount of marijuana and a glass pipe were confiscated.

5-13-03 - A student from Smith Hall Middle was referred to the Dean of Students Office for drug related violations. Narcotics paraphernalia were confiscated.

5-13-03 - Three students from John Bertram Hall were referred to the Dean of Students Office for drug related violations. Narcotics paraphernalia were confiscated.

5-14-03 - A student from Parker Hall was reffered to the Dean of Students Office for drug related violations. A glass pipe was confiscated.


Burglary

5-08-03 - A student from Parker Hall reported that her mountain bike was stolen from the common stairwell on the first floor. The bicycle is valued at $300.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

5-10-03 - A student reported that his laptop computer and computer bag was taken from his off campus residence. The laptop computer and computer bag are valued at $1945.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Theft

5-07-03 - A staff member from Chase Hall reported that two cameras were taken from a desk draw. The two cameras are valued at $360.54. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

5-16-03 - A student reported that his athletic uniform was taken from the locker room of Merrill Gym. The missing items are valued at $200.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Arson

5-04-03 - Officers noticed smoke coming from the side entrance of Rand Hall and found a mattress and garbage can engulfed in flames. Four males were observed running from the area into Rand Hall. Officers used three fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire. Damage totaled $440.96.
