Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between May 23, 2004 and June 5, 2004.

Burglary

05-23-04 - A resident of Wentworth Adams Hall reported that her wallet was taken from the top of her desk. $40.00, a credit and debit card, along with her driver's license was taken. Her room was not locked.

05-28-04 - A resident of Rand Hall reported that her wallet was taken from her unlocked room. The student's driver's license, two credit cards and $20.00 were missing.

05-30-04 - A resident of Smith Hall North reported that her Dell 8200 Series laptop along with a Cannon Powershot camera was taken from her unlocked room. The laptop is valued at $2,500.00 and the camera is valued at $500.00.


Burglary from Motor Vehicle

05-25-04 - A pizza delivery driver reported that a pizza was stolen from his motor vehicle. Officers were able to locate the person responsible for the stolen item. The individual made restitution for the pizza that he stole.


Theft

05-24-04 - A student reported that his BatesCard and his Maine State Identification was taken from the outside of Page Hall. The value of both identifications is $30.00.


Criminal Mischief

05-23-04 - A student reported finding inappropriate writings on a number of dry erase boards inside Page Hall.

05-23-04 - A resident of Stillman House reported that someone had taken food from the kitchen and scattered the items on the outside lawn.

05-25-04 - A basement window of Hayes House was broken durring the morning hours.

05-25-04 - Two security lights under the Ladd Library Terrace were reported broken.

06-01-04 - Physical Plant reported that the rental tent located in the Rand Field was damaged. Someone with a sharp instrument caused four large holes on the roof on the tent. Damage to the tent was $4,000.00.

06-05-04 - Graffiti was spray painted on the outside wall of Roger Williams Hall.


Liquor policy

05-29-04 - A keg was located and confiscated from the second floor man's shower stall of Moody House.

05-21-04 - Two pony kegs were confiscated from the common area of Small House.


Undesirable/Criminal Trespass

05-28-04 - Officers issued a criminal trespass warning to an individual who was intoxicated and walking around the campus.

05-31-04 - Two individuals were issued criminal trespass warnings after Officers stopped them from gaining entry into the fenced off area at the Library Terrace.


Neighborhood Complaint

05-25-04 - Lewiston Police responded to 218 College Street after receiving complaints about a loud party. The residents were advised to end the party..

05-25-04 - A resident of 75 Elm Street was issued a summons for disorderly conduct in reference to a loud party that tenants were having. The incident took place at 12:26 a.m.
