Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between April 7, 2002 and April 20, 2002.

Liquor Laws/Policy Violations

4-10-02 - State Liquor Enforcement summonsed a student on campus for Possession of Alcohol by a minor. The student was also referred to the Dean of Students Office.

4-13-02 - State Liquor Enforcement summonsed a student for Illegal Transportation of Alcohol by a minor on Campus Avenue. The student was also referred to the Dean of Students Office.

4-13-02 - State Liquor Enforcement summonsed three students at Campus Avenue and Wood Street for Possession of Alcohol by minors. The students were also referred to the Dean of Students Office.


Burglary

4-13-02 - A student at Rand Hall reported her room was burglarized while she was out. The room was not locked. Missing was a driver's license valued at $20.00, and two credit cards. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Theft

4-10-02 - A staff member working the Helpdesk reported the theft of a mouse from one of the computers at Treat Gallery. The Apple G3, blue/gray, hockey puck style mouse was valued at $50.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

4-12-02 - A student reported the theft of her wallet from her backpack from a study carrol in the basement of Ladd Library. The wallet was found and turned into Security. The only thing missing from the wallet was $110.00 in cash. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Criminal Mischief

4-11-02 - A student reported that chairs and couches were overturned in Room 209 at Hathorn Hall. Also, broken salad plates were found on the stairway adjacent to the front entrance. There was no damage done to the furniture, and the broken salad dishes were valued at $5.00.

4-11-02 - A fire extinguisher was taken from the second floor at Hathorn Hall and expelled in the Quad. Three students in the area were questioned. The cost to refill the extinguisher is $2.00, and a fine of $75.00 for tampering with Life Safety Equipment will be charged to the students, if the Dean of Students Office finds them responsible for the Criminal Mischief.
