Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between April 24, 2005 and May 7, 2005.

Sexual Offenses

05-03-05 - Residents of Roger Williams Hall reported seeing an individual masturbating on the fire escape outside the dorm while looking through the window of a room. The incident took place at 1:40 a.m. and the student reported the incident to Security and Campus Safety at 2:04 a.m. A Security Alert was issued on campus.


Burglary

04-28-05 - An Officer observed that a sheet of plywood was removed from the bike garage located on Wood Street. It appeared that someone entered the garage.


Bicycle Theft

05-06-05 - A student reported that her red, Yakada Circa 95 mountain bike was stolen from the bike rack outside of Hathorn Hall. The bike was locked to the rack.

05-07-05 - A student reported that her forest green, Huffy Superior mountain bike was stolen from the bike rack of Wentworth Adams Hall. The bike was not locked to the bike rack.


Narcotics Laws

04-27-05 - Two residents of Hedge Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

05-07-05 - A resident of Smith Middle was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws

04-25-05 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place at Commons in Chase Hall.

04-27-05 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

05-01-05 - A student and two of his visitors were summons by the Lewiston Police Department for violation of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place at College and Frye Street.

05-06-05 - A resident of Wentworth Adams Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liqour Laws.

05-07-05 - A resident of Smith Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Neighborhood Complaint

04-30-05 - The residents of 22 Wood Street were issued disorderly conduct warnings by the Lewiston Police after they received a disturbance complaint about the noise coming from the apartment. The incident took place at 1:29 a.m.

05-01-05 - A student was issued a summons by the Lewiston Police Department for under age drinking at the corner of Oak and Elm Street.

05-05-05 - At 12:05 a.m. the Lewiston Police went to the corner of Oak and Elm Street after they received a complaint of a disturbance. Two students who were residing at the apartment were issued disorderly conduct warnings.

05-06-05 - The Lewiston Police received a complaint of loud music coming from 218 College Street. Several students were asked to leave the apartment and the renters were issued disorderly conduct warnings. The incident took place at 2:06 a.m.


Weapons

05-07-05 - Officers located five students acting suspicious outside of Hathorn Hall. Officers found two recurved bows, arrows and other items in the bushes outside the Hall. The items were confiscated and brought to Security and Campus Safety.
