Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between April 23, 2006 and May 6, 2006.

Hate Incident

4-30-06 - A student reported finding a swastika drawn with a black pen on a couch cushion in the Perry Atrium in Pettengill Hall. The Lewiston Police Department and the Attorney General's Office were notified of the incident.


Burglary

4-24-06 - A resident of Smith Hall South reported his X-Box console, a controller, one game and a movie was stolen from his room. The incident took place over break. The Lewiston Police were notified of the incident.

4-29-06 - A resident of Page Hall reported that $250.00 - $300.00 was stolen from her room. The money was taken from her desk drawer. The Lewiston Police were notified of the incident.


Bicycle Theft

4-25-06 - A student reported that his red and white K2 mountain bike was taken from the bike storage room of Wentworth Adams Hall.


Theft

4-25-06 - During the beginning of the winter semester, Dining Services noticed several photographs of staff members were stolen from their location. The photos were recently recovered in two student's rooms.


Narcotics Laws Violations

4-27-06 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws. The incident took place at Hedge Hall.

5-05-06 - A resident of Page Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

5-05-06 - Two residents of Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

5-05-06 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws. The incident took place on the Library Quad.


Liquor Laws Violations

4-24-06 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

4-29-06 - Three students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws. The incident took place in John Bertram Hall.

4-29-06 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

4-29-06 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

4-29-06 - Four residents of 126 Wood Street were summons by the Lewiston Police Department for violations of the State Liquor Laws.

4-29-06 - Two students were summons by the Lewiston Police Department outside of 126 Wood Street for violations of State Liquor Laws.

4-29-06 - A student was summons by the Lewiston Police Department for violations of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place outside of Small House.

4-29-06 - The Lewiston Police Department summons a student for violations of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place at the corner of Wood and Vale Streets.

4-30-06 - Two students were summons at the corner of College and Vale Streets by the Lewiston Police Department for violation of State Liquor Laws.

5-04-06 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.


Criminal Trespass

4-27-06 - Four juveniles were issued criminal trespass warnings due to their behavior and actions on the campus.


Neighborhood Complaint

4-29-06 - Security and Campus Safety responded to 70 Elm Street to assist the Lewiston Police Department after they received a neighborhood noise complaint. The residents of the apartment were issued a verbal warning about the noise level coming from the apartment.

4-30-06 - The Lewiston Police requested Security and Campus Safety to assist them after they received a neighborhood complaint at the residence of 218 College Street. The renters of the apartment were advised to break up the gathering that they were having. The incident took place at 11:58 p.m.
