Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between April 20, 2003 and May 3, 2003.

Liquor Violations

4-23-03 – Five students were summonsed by the Lewiston Police Department for possession of alcohol by a minor at Smith Hall. They were also referred to the Dean of Students Office.

4-24-03 – A student at Herrick House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.

4-25-03 – Two students at Parker Hall were referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.

4-26-03 – A student at Wilson House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the rules of a blue-slipped event.

4-27-03 – A student at John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. Hard alcohol was confiscated by Security.

4-30-03 – A student at Davis House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.

5-2-03 – A student at Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.

5-3-03 – A student at Hayes House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violating the hard alcohol policy. A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated.


Burglary

4-22-03 – An individual not affiliated with Bates College was arrested by the Lewiston Police Department for attempted burglary of a motor vehicle in the Merrill Lot. He was also issued a one year Criminal Trespass Warning.

4-25-03 – A student from Rand Hall reported that fourteen shot glasses were stolen from her collection while she was away on break. The glasses were valued at $70.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

4-28-03 – A student reported that his unlocked vehicle was entered while it was parked in the Wood Street Lot. Ten CD’s valued at $10.00 were taken along with $5.00 in cash. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Theft

4-29-03 – A student at John Bertram reported the theft of his cell phone from the lounge area. The blue/silver Motorola phone was valued at $350.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Bicycle Theft

4-26-03 – A student reported the theft of his mountain bike from the bike room at Smith North. The 21-speed gold Rockhopper bike was valued at $300.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

4-28-03 – A student reported the theft of his bike from the bike storage room at Smith South. The red Rincon bike was valued at $80.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

4-30-03 – A student reported the theft of his bike from the Merrill Lot. The red Miami Sun tricycle was chained to a post. It was valued at $300.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

5-3-03 – A student reported the theft of her unlocked bike from the bike rack at Nash House. The blue Schwinn Collegiate bike was valued at $100.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.
