Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between March 25, and April 7, 2001.

Liquor Laws/Policy

3-25-01 - Security confiscated two bottles of hard liquor from the first floor common area of Davis House. The contents of both bottles were emptied. No one was in the area where the bottles were located.

3-31-01 - Security confiscated a keg of beer and a tap from the basement of Parsons House. No one was in the basement at the time.

4-2-01 - Two kegs were found in the second floor kitchen at Page Hall. The kegs were confiscated by Security.

4-7-01 - Security spoke to students at Hacker House after a blue slipped party. They were unable to locate a keg that had been in a studentıs room, and not the blue-slipped area. Also, the party had gone beyond the time limit indicated. Two students were willing to take responsibility for the problems that occurred, and were referred to the Dean of Students Office.

4-7-01 - While at Parker Hall for a fire alarm activation, Security found a keg of beer in the ironing room on the first floor. The keg was confiscated by Security.


Burglary

3-26-01 - A jacket was reported stolen from an unlocked room at Davis House. The red Modius ski jacket was valued at $100.00. Also, taken was a BatesCard inside one of the pockets valued at $10.00. The total value of the items taken is $110.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Theft

3-28-01 - A student reported the theft of her light blue down Gap jacket valued at $30.00 from the coatroom at Chase Hall. Also taken were keys valued at $20.00 that were inside one of the pockets. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

3-28-01 - A student had a key and a camera case stolen from a closet at the Gray Cage. The key was valued at $10.00 and the camera case at $10.00 for a total of $20.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.

3-29-01 - A refrigerator that had been left in storage at Whittier House was reported stolen. The student was unable to give the name brand of the refrigerator but it was medium in size, brown , and had two stickers on it. It was valued at $200.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Criminal Mischief

3-27-01 - A student at Clason House reported a broken window in his room. It was unknown what caused the break. The cost to repair the window is approximately $50.00.

3-30-01 - The vending machine located inside the first floor laundry room at Page Hall was tampered with. The machine owned by All Seasons Service Inc. had 4 spiral dispensers pulled off track. The dispensers were put back on track, and no other visible damage was observed. Approximately $7.00 worth of products were removed. The hall be charged .

4-4-01 - The vending machine in the basement at Rand Hall had the glass broken out of it and some of the products taken. The machine owned by All Seasons Service had about $280.00 worth of products missing. The cost to replace the window is $120.00 plus $60.00 in labor. The total cost to be assessed to the hall is $460.00.
