Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between March 12, 2006 and March 25, 2006.

Bike Theft

3-13-06 - A student reported that his Specialized Mountain Bike was stolen from the front of Carnegie Science.


Hate/Bias Incident

3-13-06 - It was reported to Security and Campus Safety that in the second floor hallway and inside the north stairwell of Pettengill Hall, several Nazi symbols along with racial remarks were written with a marker. Three individuals have since been charged by the Lewiston Police for the incident.

3-23-06 - An individual wrote racial remarks on the rear door of Pettengill Hall.


Simple Assault

3-25-06 - A student reported to Security and Campus Safety that while she was walking down Campus Avenue, another student ran up to her from behind and struck her on the buttocks.


Burglary

3-12-06 - A resident of Smith Hall South reported that his Dell laptop was taken from his room. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

3-12-06 - Two residents of Smith Hall South reported that thier I-Pods were taken from thier room. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

3-19-06 - Six youths from the Lewiston area were located inside an unoccupied apartment which is owned by Bates College. Officers from the Lewiston Police Department issued the group criminal trespass warnings


Thefts

3-12-06 - A student reported that her Nikon camera and BatesCard were taken from the Little Room inside Chase Hall.

3-23-06 - A student reported that his Dell laptop computer along with his computer bag was stolen from the coat room at Chase Hall. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Narcotics Laws Violation

3-16-06 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws. The incident took place inside Rand Hall.


Liquor Laws Violation

3-17-06 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

3-25-06 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws. The incident took place outside Frye House.


Criminal Mischief/Dorm Damage

3-12-06 - A student reported that an individual threw a small rock breaking a storm window on the north side of John Bertram Hall.

3-12-06 - A small hole in the wall of the lounge of Wilson House was reported.

3-13-06 - The vending machine was damaged after it was knocked over in the lounge of Page Hall.

3-13-06 - A fire extinguisher was expelled and left in the second floor stairwell landing of Smith Hall South.

3-17-06 - An expelled fire extinguisher was located in the second floor kitchen of Page Hall. The floor of the lounge and the kitchen was covered with chemical extinguishing agent.

3-18-06 - A broken window at the Alumni Gym was reported to Security and Campus Safety.

3-20-06 - A poster was damaged in Davis House.

3-25-06 - A table was damaged in the first floor lounge of Rand Hall.

3-25-06 - The window of the front door of Smith Hall North was discovered broken. A resident of Smith Hall North later stated that he was responsible for the damage.


Neighborhood Complaint

3-24-06 - Officers from the Lewiston Police Department along with Security and Campus Safety broke up a large party at Wilson House after receiving complaints about the noise level of the party.


Criminal Mischief of Motor Vehicle

3-19-06 - A student reported that her side view mirror of her vehicle was torn off from her vehicle. The vehicle was parked behind Smith Hall.

3-25-06 - A student reported that her windshield was broken after an individual threw a soap dispenser out a third floor window of Smith Hall North.

3-25-06 - It was reported that three vehicles in the Alumni Gym Parking Lot had thier side view mirror's broken and torn off from the vehicles.
