Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between February 27, 2005 and March 12, 2005.

Burglary

03-04-05 - A resident of Wentworth Adams reported that a brown and Tan suitcase and its contests were taken from her room. The cost of the suitcase and the contents are estimated at $1,200.00. The Lewiston Police were advised of the incident.


Weapons

03-02-05 - Two residents of Page Hall admitted to having pellet guns inside the dorm. The residents also admitted to damaging a window screen located in the stairwell between the third and fourth floors with the pellet guns.


Narcotics Laws

03-05-05 - Two residents of Hacker House were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

03-11-05 - Three residents of Smith Middle were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws

03-05-05 - A resident of Smith Hall South was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

03-05-05 - Two residents of John Bertram were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

03-09-05 - A resident of Page Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Criminal Mischief

03-05-05 - Students were involved with a large number of assorted damage on the first floor of Rand Hall. An estimated total of the damage is $4, 128.60. The investigation is on going.

03-05-05 - A soap dispenser in the ground floor men's bathroom in Chase Hall was torn from the wall.

03-05-05 - The residents of a room in Parker Hall removed the smoke detector causing the fire alarm system to activate in a trouble alarm.

03-05-05- Smoke detectors were removed for the third and fourth floor of Page Hall causing the fire alarm to activate. Damage to the fire alarm system is estimated at $1,923.94. The Lewiston Fire Department responded to the fire alarm.
