Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between February 26, 2006 and March 11, 2006.

Bike Thefts

3-03-06 - A student reported that her 3 speed Schwinn bicycle was taken from the Rand Hall bike rack. On 3-15-06 the bicycle was located on the side of Clason House.

3-10-06 - A student reported that his friend's Gary Fischer mountain bike was stolen from the front of Hacker House. On 3-14-06, the mountain bike was located leaning against a tree in front of 19 Frye Street.

3-11-06 - A student reported that his 28 speed Iron Horse Maverick mountain bike was stolen from the rear of Hayes House. The bike is valued at $225.00. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Narcotics Laws Violation

2-26-06 - A resident of Village Three was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

2-27-06 - A resident of Page Hall was arrested by the Lewiston Police Department for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

2-27-06 - A resident of Smith Hall South was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

3-03-06 - A resident of Village Three was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

3-04-06 - A resident of Wilson House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

3-07-06 - A resident of Holmes House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws Violation

3-04-06 - Two students of Wilson House were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

3-10-06 - Three students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws. The incident took place outside of Page Hall.

3-10-06 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

3-10-06 - A resident of Smith Hall North was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

3-11-06 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

3-11-06 - A student was summonsed by the Lewiston Police Department for violation of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place in front of Milliken House.

3-11-06 - A student was summonsed by the Lewiston Police Department in front of Small House for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Criminal Mischief/Dorm Damage

3-04-06 - An individual threw an empty bottle through the glass window of the first floor interior door of Moody House.

3-05-06 - A student threw a chair through the fourth floor window of Moodt House. A student took responsibility for the damage.

3-07-06 - A number of large holes were reported in the first floor hallway of Rand Hall. A student came forward and took responsibility for the damage.

3-07-06 - A student reported that he caused damage to a wall in the ground floor hallway of Rand Hall.

3-10-06 - A chair and sofa in the Piano Lounge of Rand Hall was reported damaged to Security and Campus Safety.


Neighborhood Complaint

3-11-06 - Security and Campus Safety along with the Lewiston Police Department responded to 218 College Street in reference to a noise complaint. The residents of the apartment received a disorderly conduct warning after 225 students were removed from the building. The incident took place at 11:30 p.m.


Criminal Mischief of Motor Vehicle

3-04-06 - A student reported that his motor vehicle was damaged while it was parked in the rear of Smith Hall.

3-11-06 - Two vehicles parked in the Alumni Gym parking lot had their rear windows broken.
