Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between February 15, 2004 and February 28, 2004.

Simple Assault

02-27-04 - Officers investigated a possible altercation between two students that took place on 02-25-04. The investigation is continuing.


Bicycle Theft

02-26-04 - A student reported that his black, 14 speed, Fuji Absolute touring bike was stolen from the front of Chase Hall. The bicycle was unlocked at the time and is valued at $55.00.


Theft

02-22-04 - A student reported that his "chop saw" was taken from the basement of Wilson House. The Makita saw is valued at $200.00. The owner found the item on 03-03-04.


Liquor Laws

02-26-04 - Four students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

02-26-04 - A student was arrested for Operating a motor vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol on Frye Street.

02-27-04 - Six students were referred to the Dean of Students for violations of State Liquor Laws.

02-28-04 - A resident of Wentworth Adams was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Liquor policy

02-28-04 - The blue slipped holder for an event that was taking place at Wilson House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Liquor Policy.


Narcotics Laws

02-26-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was found to have a large amount of marijuana in his room. The Lewiston Police Department along with the Maine Drug Enforcement was requested to assist in the search. An investigation is being conducted by the Lewiston Police Department.

02-26-04 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

02-27-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

02-27-04 - A resident of Frye House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Weapons

02-26-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of four knives.


Criminal Mischief

02-16-04 - Officers located an expelled chemical fire extinguisher in the kitchen of Hedge Hall. The cost to recharge the fire extinguisher along with fines for tampering with life safety equipment is $111.92.

02-28-04 - Officers located an expelled chemical fire extinguisher, which was discharged throughout the basement and laundry room of Hacker House. The cost to recharge the fire extinguisher along with fines for tampering with life safety equipment is $111.92.
