Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between February 10, 2002 and February 23, 2002.

Liquor Laws/Policy Violations

2-19-02 - A bottle of hard alcohol was confiscated from the living room at Hacker House. The student who claimed ownership of the bottle was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

2-10-02 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of the hard alcohol policy at a non-alcohol event at Chase Hall.


Drug Related Violations

2-14-02 - A glass pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana and a homemade pipe were confiscated from a student at Smith Hall by the Lewiston Police Department. The student was also referred to the Dean of Students Office.


Theft

2-10-02 - A student reported the theft of her black fleece jacket valued at $100.00 and keys valued at $20.00 while she was attending an event at Chase Hall. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Criminal Mischief

2-15-02 - A student at Herrick House reported that the window to his room was broken. Glass was found outside the house, but nothing in the room appeared to be missing. The cost to replace the window is $189.62.

2-22-02 - A custodian at Village II reported that some papers had been burnt on the outside of a wooden door to one of the suites. Noticeable burn marks were observed on the door as well as a burn mark on the grease board attached to the door. No one in the area saw or heard anything suspicious. It was estimated that it would cost $30.00 to clean the door. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.
