Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between February 1, 2004 and February 14, 2004.

Thefts

02-03-04 - A student reported that her personal items were taken from her bag when she left it inside the Coat Room inside Chase Hall. The items were a Mac Gray Card, an ATM debit card and $60.00 in cash. The student was later informed that her debit card was used in the College Book Store to purchase some items.

02-04-04 - A student reported that $160.00 in cash was taken from her locker inside Merrill Gym. The theft took place on 01-31-04. The Lewiston Police were notified of the theft.

02-04-04 - A student reported that $46.00 in cash was taken from her wallet inside the locker room of Merrill Gym. The incident took place on 01-31-04. The Lewiston Police were notified of the theft.

02-08-04 - A student reported that $10.00 in cash was taken from her locker inside Merrill Gym. The theft took place on 01-31-04. The Lewiston Police were notified of the theft.


Liquor Laws

02-06-04 - Four residents of Parker Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

02-06-04 - Two residents of Parker Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Narcotics Laws

02-04-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

02-06-04 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

02-07-04 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

02-07-04 - A resident of Moody House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Criminal Mischief

02-13-04 - Officers located an expelled fire extinguisher in the first floor hallway of Webb House. The Officers also noticed a small hole in the wall. Replacement cost for the fire extinguisher is $75.00. The cost to repair the damage to the wall is estimated at $80.41.

02-08-04 - Officers located an expelled water fire extinguisher on the ground floor hallway of John Bertram Hall. The cost to recharge the fire extinguisher along with fines for tampering with life safety equipment is $111.92.


Neighborhood Complaint

02-01-04 - Officers from the Lewiston Police Department spoke to the residents of 75 Elm Street about the loud music they were playing. The incident took place at 12:29 a.m.

02-01-04 - Officers from the Lewiston Police Department responded to 88 Elm Street for a complaint of a loud party. The Officers removed a large number of students from the apartment.

02-02-04 - Officers from the Lewiston Police Department issued the residents of 44 Nichols Street Disorderly Conduct Warnings after they responded to the address for a neighborhood complaint. The Officers removed a large number of students from the apartment.

02-08-04 - Officers from the Lewiston Police Department responded to the corner of College and White Street for a report of a fight. When the Officers arrived, the fight that had been reported had stopped. The Officers then went to 218 College Street and at the request of the resident, removed the visitors of the apartment.
