Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between December 5, 2004 and December 18, 2004.

Theft

12-06-04 - A student reported her Panasonic, Laptop computer was taken from one of the second floor study cubicles in Ladd Library. The Laptop was found the next morning inside the Library and turned over to the student.


Burglary From Motor Vehicle

12-10-04 - A delivery person from The Slamma Restaurant reported that an order of food was stolen from his vehicle while he was making a delivery to Rand Hall. The complaintant observed two individuals running away from his vehicle, carrying the brown paper bag containing the order.


Bicycle Theft

12-14-04 - A student reported that his black Trek, 6700 mountain bike was taken from the outside bike rack of Wentworth Adams Hall. The bike is valued at $1100.00. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the theft.


Liquor Laws

12-05-04 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

12-05-04 - A student and two visitors were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Liquor Policy

12-11-04 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the College Liquor Policy.

12-11-04 - An "illegal keg" was confiscated from a blue-slipped party that was being held at Rand Hall.

12-12-04 - An unattended keg that was left from a blue-slipped party at Rand Hall was confiscated and brought to Security.

12-16-04 - An "illegal keg" was confiscated from the basement of Moulton House and the party that was being held was dispersed.


Narcotics Laws

12-18-04 - A resident of Wentworth Adams Hall was summons by the Lewiston Police Department for violation of Narcotic Laws.


Criminal Trespass

12-08-04 - An intoxicated resident of Lewiston was issued a crimminal trespass warning after being found walking around campus.

12-11-04 - An individual from Yarmouth, ME was issued a criminal trespass warning after being involved in an incident at Rand Hall.

12-15-04 - Three residents of Lewiston were issued criminal trespass warnings after they were removed from the Alumni Gym and returned for a second time.


Criminal Mischief

12-08-04 - The front door to Pettengill Hall was kicked, causing damage to the metal molding located at the bottom of the door.

12-10-04 - A screen located in the third floor stairwell of Parker Hall was found cut in half. The damage is estimated at $72.02.

12-12-04 - A couch located in the Piano Lounge of Rand Hall was discovered broken. Also, a paper towel dispenser in the first floor bathroom was found torn apart.


Neighborhood Complaint

12-10-04 - Lewiston Police dispersed a large group from 410 Main Street due to the level of the noise coming from the apartment.

12-10-04 - Lewistom Police went to 254 Oak Street after receiving a complaint about loud music being played at the apartment. The incident took place at 11:00 p.m.
