Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between December 30, 2001 and January 12, 2002.

Liquor Laws/Policy Violations

1-08-02 - A student at Hacker House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for possession of a bottle of hard alcohol.

1-11-02 - A student at John Bertram was referred to the Dean of Students Office for possession of a bottle of hard alcohol.

1-12-02 - An empty keg and a partially full keg of beer were confiscated from Small House after students continued to drink after the time the blue-slipped event was scheduled to be over. The student who blue-slipped the event was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

1-12-02 - A student at Herrick House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for possession of two bottles of hard alcohol.

1-12-02 - A student at Wentworth Adams was referred to the Dean of Students Office for possession of a bottle of hard alcohol.


Drug Related Violations

1-08-02 - A student at Chase House was summonsed by the Lewiston Police Department for possession of drug paraphernalia. A glass pipe, commonly used to smoke marijuana, was confiscated. The student was also referred to the Dean of Students Office.


Bicycle Theft

1-10-02 - A student reported the theft of his unlocked adult size tricycle from the front of Holmes House. The red Miami tricycle had a white basket on the back, and a hand brake on the right side. It was valued at $300.00. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.


Criminal Mischief

1-07-02 - A door to a room at Webb House received $448.35 in damage. The door frame was splintered, and the door would not lock. The resident of the room had not returned from break. It was unknown what caused the damage.

1-12-02 - A four foot hole was found in the second floor hallway at Rand Hall. The damage was estimated at $306.37. There were no students in the area.
