Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between December 29, 2002 and January 11, 2003.

Liquor Violations

1-9-03 - A student at Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for being in violation of the hard alcohol policy.

1-10-03 - A student at Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for being in violation of the hard alcohol policy.

1-10-03 - A large group of students were spoken to for drinking beer at Rand Hall without a blue slip.

1-11-03 - A non blue-slipped keg of beer was confiscated from the first floor bathroom at Parsons House. No one in the area claimed ownership of the keg.


Drug Related Violations

1-9-03 - A student at Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students Office for being in possession of a small amount of marijuana and cigarette papers.


Theft

1-7-03 - A theft of a banner was reported from the Alumni House. The "Welcome Back to Bates Alumni" banner was white with black lettering. There was no monetary value given. This incident was not reported to the Lewiston Police Department at the request of the complainant.


Criminal Mischief

1-1-03 - A Security Officer observed a twelve inch hole in the first floor hallway at Parsons House. Damage was estimated at $160.83. The House will be charged for the damage.


Criminal Mischief to a Motor Vehicle

1-1-03 - A student's vehicle parked at the Merrill Gymnasium Lot received about $600.00 in damage. The driver's side window was broken out and the front windshield was cracked. The Lewiston Police Department was notified.
