Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between November 7, 2004 and November 20, 2004.

Simple Assault

11-07-04 - A student reported to Security and Campus Safety that another student struck him in the face, knocking his glasses off. The incident took place while the students were having a "heated political discussion."


Burglary

11-14-04 - A resident of Parker Hall reported that her black SportSack was taken from her room. A wallet, $60.00 in cash, a MasterCard, drivers license and $100.00 in gift certificates were also missing.

11-15-04 - An employee of Lane Hall reported $80.00 in cash taken from the top of his desk draw.


Bicycle Theft

10-31-04 - A student reported that her Roadmaster, Mountain Fury, women's mountain bike was taken from the outside bike rack of Parker Hall. The bike was left unlocked.

11-07-04 - A student reported that his 15-speed bicycle was stolen from the Ladd Library bike rack. The student was unsure of the make and model of the bicycle. The bike was left unlocked.

11-15-04 - A student reported the theft of her Trek mountain bike from the outside bike rack of Page Hall. Security and Campus Safety located the bicycle and turned it over to the complaintant.

11-18-04 - A student reported the theft of her 15-speed, turquoise, women's bicycle from outside of Merrill Gym. The bike was left unlocked at the bike rack.


Liquor Laws Violation

11-13-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

11-19-04 - Officers located and removed a keg of beer from the third floor of Hacker House. The incident was referred to the Dean of Students.


Criminal Mischief

11-19-04 - Officers located two fist sized holes on the first floor hallway of Rand Hall.

11-20-04 - An individual reported damage to a room at Smith Middle. The damage consisted of a number of holes in the wall, a clock that was broken and broken glass on the floor.


Criminal Mischief of M/V

11-10-04 - An employee reported that he found the rear window of his vehicle broken while it was parked in the Nichols Street Parkiong Lot.
