Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between November 2, 2003 and November 15, 2003.

Forcible Rape

11-14-03 - A student contacted Security and Campus Safety and stated that she was forcibly raped on campus. The individual declined to report the incident to the Lewiston Police Department. The incident was reported to the Dean of Students.


Burglary

11-07-03 - An employee from Lane Hall reported that $40.00 in cash was taken from her desk draw. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Bicycle Theft

11-03-03 - A student reported that his red and gray Gary Fisher, Tasajara mountain bike was taken from the front of Frye House. The bike is valued at $500.00 and was left unlocked. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

11-05-03 - A student reported that her teal Giant women's mountain bike was stolen from the Wentworth Adams bike rack. The bicycle was left unlocked and is valued at $100.00. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

11-13-03 - A student reported that his $100.00, red Schwinn style cruiser was taken from the Chase Hall bike rack. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

11-13-03 - A student reported that his $200.00, Raleigh 3-speed bicycle was stolen from the front of Chase Hall. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

11-14-03 - A student reported that her $100.00, red, Pueblo Nishik, 10-speed bike was stolen from the side porch of Mitchell House. On 11-15-03, the student reported finding her bicycle.


Criminal Mischief of Motor Vehicle

11-04-03 - A student reported that the rear window of her vehicle was broken, while it was parked on College Street across from Rand Hall. The value of the damage is $800.00.

11-13-03 - A staff member reported that someone intentionally scratched the side of her vehicle with a sharp object while it was parked behind the Alumni Gym. The amount of the damage is $300.00.

11-13-03 - A student reported finding the two front tires of his vehicle slashed while it was parked in the John Bertram parking lot. The value of the damage is $120.00.

11-13-03 - A student reported finding one of her tires slashed while it was parked in the John Bertram parking lot. The value of the damage is $100.00.


Liquor Laws/Policy

11-07-03 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

11-08-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

11-08-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws inside Chase Hall.

11-08-03 - Two residents of Parker Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violations of the Liquor Law Policy.

11-09-03 - Two kegs were located and removed from kitchen area of Village One.

11-15-03 - Two students inside Frye House were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Narcotics Laws

11-06-03 - A resident of Pierce House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

11-07-03 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

11-07-03 - Two residents of Smith North were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

11-08-03 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

11-14-03 - Eight students inside Parker Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

11-15-03 - A resident of Smith North was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

11-15-03 - Two residents of Page Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Neighborhood Complaints

11-02-03 - At 12:52 a.m. the Lewiston Police Department dispersed a loud party and issued a disorderly conduct warning to the resident at 77 Nichols Street after receiving complaints of a loud party.

11-15-03 - At 12:55 a.m. the Lewiston Police Department went to 24 Wood Street for complaints of a loud party and students fighting in the street. The Officers dispersed the party and arrested a student for disorderly conduct.
