Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between October 9, 2005 and October 22, 2005.

Burglary

10-12-05 - A resident of Parker Hall reported that her wallet had been stolen from her room. Personal items and $100.00 were inside the wallet. The Lewiston Police were advised of the theft.


Thefts

10-16-05 - A resident of Pierce House reported the theft of an Oriental rug from the house's lounge. On 10-18-05, the rug was returned to Pierce House.


Bicycle Theft

10-09-05 - A student reported that her Hawk Hill mountain bike was stolen from the bike rack outside of Roger Williams Hall. The value of the bike is $700.00.

10-11-05 - A bicycle that was reported stolen on 10-07-05 was recovered and returned to the owner.

10-17-05 - A student reported that his light blue and silver Next bicycle was stolen from the front of Pettengill Hall. The value of the bike is $65.00.

10-18-05 - A Trek Sport mountain bike, which was reported stolen on 10-04-05 was recovered. The bike was given to the owner.


Criminal Mischief

10-09-05 - A fire extinguisher was discharged in Rand Hall. A $193.73 cost was issued to the dorm.

10-09-05 - The front door of Village III was found lying on the ground. The door was completely removed from the doorframe. The cost of the damage is unknown.

10-09-05 - A fire extinguisher was discharged in the kitchen of John Bertram Hall. The cost of the damage is $193.73.

10-16-05 - A resident reported damage to the wall in the second floor hallway of Parker Hall.


Criminal Mischief of a Motor Vehicle

10-18-05 - A student reported that she found her side mirror ripped off from her vehicle. Her vehicle was parked on Frye Street.


Narcotics Laws Violation

10-12-05 - A resident of Milliken House was referred to the Dean of Students Office for violation of the State Narcotics Laws.

10-13-05 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws. The incident took place inside the radio station, WRBC.
