Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between October 5, 2003 and October 18, 2003.

Thefts

10-05-03 - A student reported that her storage boxes and contents were taken from the storage room of Wentworth Adams Hall. The six small boxes contained personal items and textboooks. The value of the items is $30.00.

10-08-03 - A student reported that her bicycle seat was taken from her bicycle that was locked to the bicycle rack in front of Wentworth Adams Hall. The value of the seat is $45.00.

10-13-03 - A custodian reported that a computer was missing from a lounge in Chase Hall. The Dell Latitude laptop has a value of $2000.00. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

10-16-03 - A student reported that the fog lights from his vehicle was taken while the vehicle was parked on Campus Avenue. The value of the lights is $100.00. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the theft.


Bicycle Theft

10-12-03 - A specialized Stump Jumper, silver in color with shocks and XT components was stolen from the Page Hall bike rack. The bike is valued at $1500.00. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

10-13-03 - A student reported her green, Trek mountain bike was taken from the Wilson House bike rack where it was left unlocked. The bike is valued at $100.00. The stolen bicycle was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Criminal Trespass

10-09-03 - A juvenile was given a criminal trespass warning by Security and Campus Safety along with the Lewiston Police Department after he was found inside the Alumni Gym. On 10-11-03, the same juvenile was located in the Village Parking Lot in violation of the criminal trespass warning that was issued to him. Lewiston Police Department arrested and charged the juvenile with criminal trespassing.


Liquor Laws/Policy

10-05-03 - A keg was located in Village III and removed from the building.

10-10-03 - Students were dispersed from the lounge of Wilson House after hard liquor was located in the lounge. The incident was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

10-10-03 - A resident of Pierce House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Hard Liquor Policy.

10-17-03 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Hard Alcohol Policy while he was on Mount David.


Narcotics Laws

10-10-03 - A resident of Pierce House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Neighborhood Complaints

10-05-03 - The Lewiston Police Department dispersed a loud party at 410 Main Street at 1:26 a.m. after receiving complaints about the loud noise.

10-05-03 - At 2:56 a.m. the Lewiston Police Department dispersed a loud party at 55 Nichols Street after receiving complaints about the loud noise.
