Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between October 23, 2005 and November 5, 2005.

Thefts

10-27-05 - A student reported that her BatesCard was taken from her. Her card was later returned to her.

11-05-05 - An employee of Dining Services reported that he observed two students take a table from the loading dock. The table was later located in Smith Hall.


Bicycle Theft

10-30-05 - A student reported that her Specialized 18 speed mountain bike was taken from the outside bike rack of Page Hall. The bike was later located in front of Rand Hall.

10-30-05 - A resident of Milliken House reported that her Gary Fisher, B2V Cross Country Bike was taken from the Turf Field. The value of the bike is $1200.00. The Lewiston Police was advised of the theft.


Criminal Mischief

10-27-05 - Nineteen railing spindles were missing from the front porch of Wilson House. The cost to replace the spindles is unknown.

10-31-05 - A fire extinguisher was replaced after it was discharged inside Smith Hall North.

11-04-05 - It was reported that several pellet holes were located in the third floor hallway of Parker Hall.

11-05-05 - Two residents of Hedge Hall admitted to discharging a fire extinguisher inside the second floor hallway of the building. The two students will be charged for the replacement cost of the extinguisher.


Criminal Mischief of a Motor Vehicle

10-30-05 - A student reported that the driver's side mirror of his vehicle was removed. His Ford Escape was parked in the rear of Smith Hall.

10-31-05 - A student reported that the passenger's side mirror of her vehicle was damaged. Her Jeep Liberty was parked in front of 270 College Street.


Narcotics Laws Violation

10-24-05 - Three students of Rand Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotic Laws.

11-02-05 - Three students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotic Laws. The incident took place inside John Bertram Hall.

11-05-05 - Three students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotic Laws. The incident took place inside Village III.


Liquor Laws Violation

11-04-05 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place at Smith Hall South.
