Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between October 10, 2004 and October 23, 2004.

Burglary

10-23-04 - A resident of Webb House reported that her I-Pod was taken from her unlocked room. The value of the item is $250.00.


Theft

10-20-04 - The custodian of Hathorn Hall reported that a small coffee table and two stacked chairs were taken from the building's first floor. The value of the items is unknown.


Bicycle Theft

10-10-04 - A student reported that her mountain bike was stolen from the outside bike rack of Wentworth Adams Hall. Officers located the bike in front of Page Hall and the bike was returned to the owner.

10-13-04 - A student reported that her bicycle was taken from the bike rack outside of Pettengill Hall. The owner later found the Huffy 5-speed.

10-14-04 - A student reported the theft of his bicycle from the bike rack at Olin Arts Center. Officers located the Mountain Bike later in the night and the bike was returned to its owner.

10-17-04 - A student reported that her bicycle was stolen from the outside bike rack of Moody House. The 26" Murray 10-speed is valued at $25.00.

10-17-04 - A student reported that her unlocked, $50.00 bicycle was taken from the outside bike rack of Parker Hall. The Lewiston Police were advised of the theft.


Liquor Law Violation

10-15-04 - Two residents of Smith Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Liquor Policy Violation

10-10-04 - A resident of Moulton House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the Liquor Policy.

10-17-04 - The blue-slip holder from an alcohol event that was taking place at Chase House was referred to the Dean of Students for a Liquor Policy Violation.


Narcotics Law Violation

10-12-04 - Security and Campus Safety Officers located an individual sitting in a vehicle in the Vale Street parking lot. Officers found a small amount of narcotics and drug paraphernalia with him. The individual was issued a one-year crimminal trespass warning.


Criminal Mischief

10-16-04 - A resident of Moody House was cited for removing the smoke detector from his room. The resident was assessed a $75.00 fine for tampering with life safety equipment.

10-16-04 - During the night, the two benches and bike rack located in front of Pettengill Hall were overturned.

10-17-02 - A fire extinguisher in the first floor hallway of Rand Hall was found expelled. Cost to replace the fire extinguisher was $111.92 and the dorm was charged with a $75.00 fine.


Dorm Damage

10-10-04 - Officers located two holes in the wall of the first floor hallway of John Bertram Hall.

10-17-04 - A fist sized hole was found in the second floor hallway wall of Parker Hall.


Criminal Trespass

10-11-04 - A student reported to Security and Campus Safety that two young males were knocking on the windows of Page Hall, trying to gain entry into the dorm. The individuals were located and issued criminal trespass warnings.

10-21-04 - Security and Campus Safety observed an individual acting in a strange manner on the Merrill Extension Road. When an Officer approached the individual, he began to become unruly and aggressive twords the Officer. The Lewiston Police were requested to assist the individual, who was indentified and was issued a criminal trespass warning.


Neighborhood Complaints

10-16-04 - The residents of 26 White Street received a disorderly conduct warning by the Lewiston Police Department for a complaint of loud noise.

10-16-04 - A disorderly conduct warning was issued to the tenants of 77 Nichols Street by the Lewiston Police Department after receiving a complaint of a student urinating on the neighbors' front steps. The incident took place at 11:52 p.m.
