Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

Sexual Assault

An incident was reported to the Dean of Students Office. The incident was taken in front of the Student Conduct Committee.


Theft

01-30-05 - A resident of Smith Hall Middle reported that his Palm Pilot was stolen over the semester break. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the theft.


Cyber Crime

01-29-05 - A student reported that she received an e-mail from an individual stating that they were a representative of a bank and requested personal information to update their account information. The Lewiston Police Department was advised of the incident.


Criminal Trespass

02-12-05 - Two individuals were issued criminal trespass warnings in the Village Parking Lot due to their suspicious behavior.


Liquor Laws Violation

02-04-05 - A resident of Smith Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

02-05-05 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

02-07-05 - The Lewiston Police advised Security and Campus Safety that two students were issued summons on Frye Street for Liquor Laws Violation. The incident took place on 01-28-05.


Dorm Damage / Criminal Mischief

02-05-05 - Officers found the glass on the quad bulletin board damaged. The cost of the damage is unknown at this time.

02-05-05 - A fire extinguisher was expelled in the stairwell of Smith Hall South. The cost of the damage is $193.73.

02-05-05 - Officers located a hole in the wall of the first floor lounge of Rand Hall. It appears that someone had kicked the wall. The cost of the damage is $170.62.


Neighborhood Complaint

02-05-05 - At 2:08 a.m. Officers went to 77 Nichols Street at the request of the Lewiston Police Department. The tenant was issued a disorderly conduct warning and twenty people were removed from the party.
