Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between January 29, 2006 and February 11, 2006.

Theft

1-29-06 - A student reported that his drum set was taken from the lounge of Rand Hall. Taken were four cymbals and bag worth $1000.00. The incident was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.

2-09-06 - A Dining Hall employee reported that his military style camouflage boots were taken from the employee lounge. The boots are valued at $70.00.

2-11-06 - A student reported that her cell phone was taken from her coat pocket when she left coat in the Coat Room in Chase Hall.


Narcotics Laws Violation

1-11-06 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.

1-11-06 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws Violation

2-11-06 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws. The incident took place inside Hedge Hall.

2-11-06 - Three students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws. The incident took place outside of Page Hall.

2-11-06 - Two residents of Wentworth Adams Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.


Criminal Mischief/Dorm Damage

1-29-06 - Officers reported finding the exit light on the ground floor of Hedge Hall damaged.

1-29-06 - A ceiling tile was damaged in the basement hallway of Parker Hall.

2-04-06 - The door to the emergency elevator phone in John Bertram Hall was damaged when an individual kicked the door in.

2-05-06 - Officers responded to Smith Hall in response to the activation of the fire alarm. It was determined that the cause of the fire alarm originated from a fire extinguisher being expelled on the first floor stairwell of Smith Middle. An Anonymous Report was filed naming a resident of Smith Hall as being responsible for expelling the fire extinguisher.

2-07-06 - An individual punched a fist sized hole in the second floor hallway wall of John Bertram Hall.

2-09-06 - The ground floor lounge of Page Hall was left in disarray after a group of residents had a gathering the night before. Also damaged was a shower stall and a mirror located in the ground floor bathroom. The group of students who had the gathering will be charged with the cost of the cleanup and damage.

2-10-06 - Officers reported finding the light fixture located in the stairwell of Hedge Hall had been damaged.

2-11-06 - Officers noticed three holes in the third floor hallway of Page Hall. An Anonymous Report was filed naming the individual who was responsible for the damage. The individual was spoken to by Security and Campus Safety and admitted causing the damage.


Criminal Mischief of Motor Vehicle

2-03-06 - The Shuttle Driver reported that he found the driver's side window of the CSA van had been smashed out by a rock.


Neighborhood Complaint

1-29-06 - At 12:21 a.m., the residents of 77 Nichols Street were issued summonses by the Lewiston Police for providing a place for minors to consume alcohol. They went to the address after receiving a neighborhood complaint about the large party that was taking place.

2-04-06 - The residents of 218 College Streets were issued disorderly conduct warnings after the Lewiston Police went to the apartment after receiving a neighborhood complaint about the party that was taking place. The incident took place at 12:21 a.m.
