Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between January 18, 2004 and January 31, 2004.

Burglaries

01-23-04 - A resident of Parker Hall reported that her Dell laptop was stolen from her room during the evening. The student's room was left unlocked and an outside door of the building was left propped open. The value of the laptop is $1800.00. The Lewiston Police were notified of the incident.

01-24-04 - A resident of Page Hall reported that her Dell Aspiron 500 laptop was stolen from her room. The student's room was left unlocked at the time of the incident. The value of the laptop is $1000.00. The Lewiston Police were notified of the incident.

01-27-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall reported that his DVD collection was taken from his room. The student reported that approximately 210 DVDs and the case that contained the DVDs were stolen. The total value of the items is $3500.00. The Lewiston Police were notified of the incident.


Liquor Laws

01-23-04 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of alcohol while inside Commons.

01-23-04 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for having an open container of alcohol while inside Underhill Arena.

01-24-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of alcohol.

01-27-04 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of alcohol.

01-30-04 - Four residents of Smith Hall North were referred to the Dean of Students for possession of alcohol.

01-31-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for having an open container of alcohol.

01-31-04 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of alcohol at the corner of Frye and College Street.


Narcotics Laws

01-22-04 - A resident of Wilson House was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of drug paraphernalia.

01-23-04 - A resident of Smith Hall North was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of marijuana.

01-25-04 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of drug paraphernalia.

01-27-04 - A resdient of Pierce House was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

01-27-04 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of marijuana. The Lewiston Police Department was notified and responded to Rand Hall.

01-30-04 - Four individuals inside Page Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

01-31-04 - A resident of John Bertram Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for possession of marijuana.

01-31-04 - Two residents of John Bertram Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for possession of marijuana.


Criminal Mischief

01-19-04 - A 10lb chemical fire extinguisher in the first floor hallway of Rand Hall was used improperly. A fine of $111.92 was issued.

01-21-04 - A window in the basement area of John Bertram Hall was found broken. Replacement cost is $75.00.

01-27-04 - A resident of Rand Hall was observed drilling a hole in the hallway wall in an attempt to obtain cable television. The cost to repair the wall is $80.41.


Criminal Mischief of M/V

01-20-04 - A student reported that her passenger side door mirror of her Subaru Outback was broken from her vehicle. The cost of the damage is $100.00.


Neighborhood Complaint

01-23-04 - The Lewiston Police Department went to 44 Nichols Street after receiving a complaint of a disturbance. 200 students who were attending the party were dispersed from the residence.
