Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between January 16, 2005 and January 29, 2005.

Criminal Trespass

01-21-05 - Officers observed a white Dodge being driven around campus in a suspicious manner. The vehicle was later observed in the Admission Parking Lot where Officers approached the driver and obtained identification. The Lewiston Police Department assisted. The driver was issued a criminal trespass warning.


Narcotics Laws

01-19-05 - Five students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws. The incident took place inside Wilson House.

01-21-05 - Two students from Smith South were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

01-21-05 - Two students from Smith Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

01-22-05 - Two students from Smith Middle were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

01-28-05 - Two students from Page Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Liquor Laws

01-28-05 - Two students were issued summons by the Lewiston Police Department for violation of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place on Frye Street.

01-28-05 - A student was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws after the individual drove his vehicle into a snow bank on the walkway between the football field and Alumni Gym. The student admitted that he was drinking prior to the incident.


Dorm Damage / Criminal Mischief

01-17-05 - A chemical fire extinguisher was expelled on the forth floor of Smith Hall Middle. The total cost of the damage is $116.73.

01-23-05 - A resident of Hedge Hall contacted Security and Campus Safety to take responsibility of the dorm damage the he inflicted in the kitchen area of the basement.

01-29-05 - Officers noticed a six inch by six inch hole in the ground floor hallway of Page Hall. Damage is estimated at $170.62.


Neighborhood Complaint

01-16-05 - The Lewiston Police Department responded to 78 Oak Street to investigate a neighborhood noise complaint. Officers found students standing outside the apartment drinking alcohol. Officers broke up the party and issued the tenants a disorderly conduct warning. The incident took place at 3:14 a.m.
