Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between January 15, 2006 and January 28, 2006.

Burglary

1-15-06 - A resident of Village 2 reported that his BatesCard was taken from his room.


Theft

1-15-06 - A student reported that several items were taken from the common area of her friend's room in John Bertram Hall. The items included her Northface jacket, boots, and her BatesCard. The Lewiston Police were advised of the theft.

1-23-06 - A student reported that her Patagonia coat and cell phone were taken from the Little Room's coat room located in Chase Hall. The theft was reported to the Lewiston Police Department.


Narcotics Laws Violation

1-15-06 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Narcotics Laws. The incident took place inside Smith Hall South.

1-19-06 - Two students were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Narcotics Laws. The incident took place inside Roger Williams Hall.


Liquor Laws Violation

1-21-06 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

1-21-06 - A resident of Smith Hall South was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

1-27-06 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

1-28-06 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

1-28-06 - A resident of Page Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

1-28-06 - Two residents of Stillman House were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the State Liquor Laws.

1-28-06 - A student was summonsed by the Lewiston Police Department for violation of State Liquor Laws. The incident took place on Andrews Road in front of Parker Hall.


Criminal Mischief/Dorm Damage

1-15-06 - An Anonymous Report Complaint was filed with Security and Campus Safety about an individual that caused dorm damage in Smith Hall North. Officers spoke to the student who admitted that he caused the damage.

1-22-06 - An Officer from Security and Campus Safety noticed someone had punched a hole in the wall in the first floor hallway of Rand Hall.

1-27-06 - Security and Campus Safety reported a broken window in the second floor lounge of Rand Hall.

1-28-06 - An Anonymous Report Complaint was filed with Security and Campus Safety about an individual that caused dorm damage in Parker Hall. Officers spoke to the student who admitted that he caused damage to the heating dials on the third and fourth floors of Parker Hall.

1-28-06 - Security and Campus Safety noticed that a cork memo board had been ripped from the ground floor hallway of Rand Hall.


Criminal Mischief of Motor Vehicle

1-23-06 - A GMC Savanna owned by the Bates College Catering reported that the side mirror of the vehicle was damaged while it was parked at the Chase Hall loading dock.

1-23-06 - A student reported that her driver's side mirror of her Toyota Corolla was damaged while it was parked in the Smith Hall parking lot.


Neighborhood Complaint

1-15-06 - The Lewiston Police Department ended a large gathering that was taking place at 59 Nichols Street. The incident took place at 12:42 a.m.

1-19-06 - The tenants of 53 Nichols Street were issued a disorderly conduct warning by the Lewiston Police Department for the loud stereo that they were playing. The incident took place at 12:02 a.m.

1-21-06 - Lewiston Police and Security and Campus Safety went to 77 Nichols Street for a report of a neighborhood disturbance. The residents of the apartment were given disorderly conduct warnings for the loud music that they were playing. The incident took place at 12:30 a.m.
