Crime Statistics

Statistics in the crime categories below represent criminal activity officially reported to Bates College Security and Campus Safety as defined by the National Incident-Based Reporting System Edition of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, and as required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Student Right-to-Know and CAMPUS SECURITY ACT (public laws 101-542, 102-26, 102-325, and 103-208). amended 1992 and 1998, renamed the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Statistics Act."

The following statistics reflect criminal activity that was reported between January 1, 2004 and January 17, 2004.

Burglary

01-11-04 - A resident of Rand Hall reported that his X-Box video console along with four controllers and four games were stolen from his room. The total value of the items stolen is $400.00. The Lewiston Police was advised of the incident.


Theft

01-13-04 - A resident of Whittier House reported that a number of her belongings were stolen from the storage room of Moulton House. The items were a Gateway computer tower, a printer, and a wooden cased record player.


Liquor Laws

01-10-04 - A resident of John Bertram was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

01-10-04 - A resident of Page Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

01-11-04 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

01-16-04 - Two residents of Hedge Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.

01-16-04 - A resident of Smith Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of State Liquor Laws.


Liquor Policy

01-10-04 - A resident of Rand Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the College Liquor Policy.

01-14-04 - A resident of Howard House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the College Liquor Policy.

01-17-04 - A resident of Parsons House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of the College Liquor Policy.


Narcotics Laws

01-09-04 - Two residents of Lewiston, one visiting at WRBC and the other working as a disk jockey, were found smoking and also in possession of a sandwich bag of marijuana. The Lewiston Police Department was notified to assist the Officers. The visitor was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and Officers destroyed the marijuana.

01-10-04 - A resident of Page Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

01-15-04 - A resident of Parker Hall was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

01-17-04 - A resdient of Parsons House was referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

01-17-04 - Three residents of Smith Hall were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.

01-17-04 - Two residents of Milliken House were referred to the Dean of Students for violation of Narcotics Laws.


Criminal Trespass

01-01-04 - An intoxicated Lewiston resident was observed walking around the campus during the morning hours. While the individual was walking towards Davis Mountain, a Security Officer and the Lewiston Police Department stopped him. The individual was issued a criminal trespass warning.

01-08-04 - An intoxicated Lewiston resident was observed walking around the campus during the morning hours. After several attempts, Officers along with the Lewiston Police Department stopped the individual and issued him a criminal trespass warning. After several minutes, the individual was seen on campus and was arrested for criminal trespassing by the Lewiston Police Department.


Criminal Mischief

01-11-04 - Officers found the first floor lounge of Pierce House "trashed" from a party that had taken place. Paper, food, beer bottles and cans were thrown throughout the lounge. Furniture was turned over, a section of drapery was pulled down from the window and a medium size hole was left in the wall. The cost of the damage has not been determined.

01-17-04 - Officers found a window on a door at the Chapel broken. Damage to the window is estimated at $50.00.

01-17-04 - Officers found the first floor lounge and hallway of Rand Hall "trashed" with empty beer cans and bottles along with trash thrown throughout the area. The piano, located in the lounge was also damaged. Officers also found a large hole in the wall in the hallway.


Other Incidents

01-05-04 - The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a fire at Wentworth Adams Hall. The fire was believed to have started from a pinched wire that was plugged into an electrical outlet from a radio. The Lewiston Fire Department was able to quickly put out the fire.

01-19-04 - A student reported being assaulted by other students outside the address of 161 College Street. The incident was referred to the Dean of Students.
