Loch
Ness Monster (n.
Lock Ness MON-stir) Scotland's famous Lake
Monster, also known as Nessie. This creature inhabits the largest
body of freshwater in Scotland, Loch Ness. The majority of sightings
involve a similiar Sea Serpent creature: a huge gray or black animal
with two or three visible humps and a long, thin head. This description
seems to suggest some similiarity in the Loch Ness Monster to an
pre-historic plesiosuars.
The
Loch Ness Monster has perhaps the largest body of evidence of any
cryptid. Numerous photos and videos have been taken of animal-like
shapes in Loch Ness by researchers and casual observers alike. A
patrolling boat using sonar also indicated some unidentified mass
in the waters of Loch Ness in 1972.
Like
Bigfoot and Yeti, the continuing persistance of Loch Ness Monster
sightings throughout the years suggests that there is not just one
monster, but an actually breeding group. Many exist to explain Nessie:
some argue the creature is a manatee, others believe the creature
to be some type of amphibian long thought to be extinct.
