The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the largest governing body for intercollegiate athletics in the United States. Divided into three divisions, Bates belongs to Division III, which is the only division that does not offer athletic scholarship and also happens to be the largest of the three divisions.


National Student-Athlete Development Conference
(formerly known as the Leadership Conference)

Every NCAA member school has the opportunity to send a student-athlete to this conference, held every May at the Walt Disney World Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida. During these four days, athletes from all three divisions, representing all NCAA sports will convene to work on their leadership abilities.

Criteria for Application:

1. Must be a member of a NCAA team and be returning to participate the year following the conference.

2. Commitment to attend the Conference if selected and participate in all sessions.


Process for Selection:

1. Athlete submits application before deadline to the Bates Selection Committee.

2. Bates Selection Committee reviews all aplications and selects 2 male and 2 female athletes to complete a slate of 4 athletes.

3. The Bates Slate of 4 is submitted to the NCAA for review.

4. The NCAA will select the representative(s) from Bates and notify Bates by end of March.
