IM Broomball League
Winter Semester 2008

IM Coordinator:   TBA

Game Days: Wednesday nights, 8:30-11 pm

Team Registration.

How the Game is Played.

Broomball is played with an inflated ball and a "broom" for each of the 4 players (including the goalie). It will be played the width of the ice so two games will be played at the same time.

Players.

Teams MUST be co-ed: 2 women and 2 men. If a team only has one woman or man, it must play one player short.

Equipment.

No skates are allowed; no boots or shoes with spikes. ONLY SNEAKERS - CLEAN SNEAKERS. Carry your sneakers to the arena and put them on when you get inside the arena. This will help keep the ice clean and free from dirt, sand and debris (which damages the ice and the zamboni).

All players MUST wear helmets, which are provided. NO hockey, football or other sports pads may be worn!

Playing Time.

Two 15 minute halves will be played.

Sliding.

Feet-first and head-first sliding will result in AUTOMATIC EJECTION, regardless if an opposing player is near (goalies are exempt only if they are making a genuine attempt at the ball).

Feet.

Play will be stopped if a player deliberately plays the ball with their feet in order to pass or shoot -- goalies included.

Goalies.

Galies can use their hands or feet within an imaginary box, in the space in front of the goal line and before the face-off dots. They must make a genuine effort to hold onto their sticks at all times. Once they have picked up the ball, goalies must ROLL the ball UNDERHAND to a teammate.

High-Sticking.

The ball cannot be played by a stick more than three fee high (above the waistline). In addition, should a backswing or follow-through go above 3 feet (above the waistline), the ball will be given to the other team.

Body Contact.

People will collide and fall, but this is NOT ice hockey. If there is unnecessary clutching, grabbing, or deliberate body contact, at the referee's discretion, players will be penalized or ejected as necessary.

Tied Games.

Regular season games can end in ties. There is no overtime play. Ties in playoff games will be determined by a shootout.

Rules:

1.   Absolutely no checking allowed!

2.   No slapshots.

3.   Captains are responsible for notifying all team members of schedule.

4.
Good Sportsmanship should be observed at all times. Captains/teams are expected to solve disputes in a fair manner. OFFICIALS have the authority to eject anyone from the game if necessary. An ejected player will not be able to play in the next team's game. A player who has been ejected twice will be ejected from playing the rest of the season.

5 .   Any problems with players or procedures should be reported to IM Student Coordinator.

6 .   ONLY 1 ice hockey club player may be on a team.

7 .   Game Scores are to be reported to the IM Student Coordinator.

8 .  All players MUST wear the helmet provided.

9 .  NO Tolerance! Any team found with alcohol in the arena or having intoxicated players on the ice will
be removed from the league immediately!
