Purposes of the Internships:
-
To provide an opportunity for the student
to begin to understand some of the complexities and some of the unpredictable
variables which mark environmental work, through immersion in the
life of an organization or agency involved in such work.
- To provide an opportunity for the student to "test"
in the field some of the theories and arguments encountered in courses.
- To provide the host organization with a modest opportunity
to call upon the energy and curiosity of a student interested in the
natural environment.
The Environmental Studies internships must be
with any one of a range of organizations, including schools, legislatures,
private companies, outdoor recreational groups, environmental advocay
groups, law firms, or government agencies. Normally, they are carried
out during short term or during the summer. Internships may be paid
or unpaid; they may be for short term academic credit, or not, as best
suits the needs and interests of the student and of the sponsoring organization
or agency.
