Chapter 7:
Introduction
- In this chapter, you will learn about the
Nouns of the 3rd Declension. The endings of the 3rd Declension are
quite different from those of the 1st and 2nd Declension.
- The 3rd Declension Nouns are formed the same
way as the nouns of the first two declensions: the root (found in
the GS) + endings.
- The 3rd Declension contains nouns in all 3
genders. While there is a variety of nominative singular
forms, all 3rd Declension nouns are categorized by the genitive
singular endings in "is".
- Nötä
bene: This is why you must memorize both
the NS and GS, and the gender, for every noun you learn.
- 3rd Declension Nouns can and will be modified
by adjectives of the 1st and 2nd Declension. They must agree in
Gender, Number and Case, but (obviously) the endings will not
match.
