Chapter 6: Complementary
Infinitives
- Because of possum's meaning ("can", "to be
able"), it requires an infinitive to complete its meaning.
Hence the name of this specific infinitive - the "complementary
infinitive".
- Dëbeö
is another verb you have already learned which
requires a complementary infinitive. [e.g., dëbës
amäre: you should love/ you ought to love].
E.g. Populus tyrannum malum nön potest
toleräre.
"toleräre" is
the complementary infinitive.
~ The people are not able to tolerate the
wicked tyrant.
