Latin 101: Bates College

Wheelock: Chapter 24

In addition to their ability to switch hit (the dazzling capacity to astound readers with both their nominal and verbal properties) Latin participles are regularly used in constructions (multi-word grammatical units with their own logic and rules - e.g., the complementary infinitive). In this chapter we will study the use of the two most common uses of participles in construction: the ablative absolute and the passive paraphrastic. Then, just because you worked so hard to memorize the ablative of personal agent before the break, I thought I'd mess with your minds and introduce the dative of agent.
