Chapter 2: 1st Declension

• Root of the Noun:
  
  
  • The root of every noun is the genitive singular minus it's genitive ending.
    
    
    • When you learn nouns in your vocabulary, always memorize the nominative and genitive singular endings as well as the gender of the noun.
      
      
    • If you know the NS and GS of a noun, you will always be able to figure out which declension it belongs to.
       
      
    • Additionally, since the root is formed from the genitive, you cannot decline the noun in later declensions without knowing the genitive form.
