Latin 101

Formation of Passive

Imperfect Indicative Passive:

  • stem (2nd pp - "re") laudä (laudäre); monë (monëre)
  • plus future tense marker ("bi") [1st/2nd conj only]
  • plus endings:

Note:

  • 1 sing ending is wacky - you would expect laudäbir; monëbir
  • 2 sing ending is wacky - you would expect laudäbiris; monëbiris (they did it to mess with your minds)
  • The 2 sing has an alternate ending in "re" (laudäbere; monëbere).
  • Like the future indicative active, the 3 pl shows "bu" not "bi" for the tense marker
