Concept Review: Chapter Eight introduces the Third Conjugation verbs. You have already learned First and Second Conjugation verbs. Remember (-are) endings signify First Conjugation and (-ere) with a long e signify the Second Conjugation. The Third Conjugation also has (-ere) endings for the second principle part. The e in the Third Conjugation, however, is a short e. The macron (a line over the vowel) is absent from the e in Third Conjugation verbs. Pay attention to macrons when learning your vocabulary. This chapter covers the Present, Future, and Imperfect tenses for Third Conjugation Verbs. For complete ending charts please refer to pages 49-50 and/or page 452. Important points to remember: the Future endings for Third Conjugation verbs do not have the tense marked used in the First and Second Conjugations (remember -bo, -bi, and -bu). Imperfect endings still use the tense sign (-ba) followed by the same endings.
