Concept Review: Chapter Six introduces the Future and Imperfect tense for sum. Also, it introduces the Present, Future, and Imperfect tense for another irregular verb possum. The Present tense for both sum and possum are irregular. The Future and Imperfect tense are more regular. Still, you should learn each form of these irregular forms. Please review pages 37-38 and page 458 for charts of the verb forms. Complementary Infinitive are infinitives that complete the meaning of another verb. Possum (be able, can) and debeo (ought) are two examples of Latin words that take a complementary infinitive. Ex. Puellam videre possum. I am able to see the girl. This sentence would not be complete without the addition of the complementary infinitive videre. Ex. Puerum laudere debes. You ought to praise the boy. In this sentence laudere is the complementary infinitive. |
