Concept Review: Chapter Five introduces two tenses: Future and Imperfect. For both tense you use the present stem and attach the various endings. Future: Quite self-explanitory tense that indiciates actions that will happen in the future, but have not yet occurred. For the First (-are) and Second (-ere) Conjugations, you will need to add the tense sign (-bo, -bi, or -bu) to indicate the Future Tense. The tense sign attaches to the stem of the verb. After the tense signs, you will add the endings. Please see pages 31-32 or page 452 for references. Translation: To translate the Future Tense use the words shall or will to indicate the future in English. Imperfect: This is the tense that marks an on going, repeated, or habitual action that starts in the past, but continues. To visual the Imperfect Tense imagine a time line. There is a dot that indicates the present. If you were to add the Imperfect Tense to the chart it would be an continuous line starting to the left of the present.
For the First (-are) and Second (-ere) Conjugations you will need to add a tense sign (-ba) to indicate the Imperfect Tense. The tense sign attaches to the stem of the verb. After the tense sign, you will add the endings. Please see pages 31-32 or page 452 for references. Translation: To translate the Imperfect Tense use phrases such as was/were (verb)ing. This denotes ongoing action in the past.
