LIFE SPAN—  LEARNING OBJECTIVES



STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
From taking this course, students should expect:
  1. To develop new and increased understanding of the human lifespan and its various stages.
  2. To develop new and increased understanding of various individual life stages, including:
    • the transitions that mark the start or onset of each stage,
    • the changes that are common to each stage,
    • the consequences of those changes to later development,
    • the variations that can occur within each stage (and the reasons for these variations),
    • the consequences of those variations in subsequent stages,
    • the decisions we can make to favor desired outcomes and to reduce the risks of undesirable outcomes at each stage
  3. To develop familiarity with the various cultural and other influences on development through life's stages
  4. To develop awareness of research methods and research findings on various stages of development.
  5. To develop awareness of the needs of people at various life stages.
  6. To use the knowledge gained in this course to become more competent and compassionate practititioners
    of such professions as teaching, child care, or various health professions (for those who choose such career paths).
  7. To use the knowledge gained in this course to guide their own future development.
  8. To use the knowledge gained in this course to become better parents, better partners, and better caregivers to needy family members.
