Subject: Massachusetts High Demand Scholarship
WHAT IS IT?
The Massachusetts High Demand Scholarship Program was created by the Massachusetts Legislature to support economic
growth and development. The purpose is to encourage degree completion in high demand disciplines that will help address
the workforce needs of the Commonwealth by providing scholarship assistance to support the educational costs of students
pursuing such programs of study. The scholarship program supports training and degree completion in disciplines that are
deemed to be critical shortage areas, as identified by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
To be eligible for the Massachusetts High Demand Scholarship, a student must:
• be enrolled in a designated high need STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program of study
at a Massachusetts State University
• not have earned a prior bachelor’s degree
• be a Massachusetts resident and US citizen or eligible non-citizen for at least one year prior to the start of
the academic year
• be eligible under Title IV and not in default of a state or federal student loan, or owe a refund on any federal
or state aid
ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES:
• Science (including, but not limited to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Biochemistry)
• Math
• Technology
• Engineering (including all sub-disciplines)
AWARD VALUES:
Enrollment Status Amount
Full time (12+ credits) Up to $2750 per semester
Part time (6-11 credits) Up to $1350 per semester
HOW DO I APPLY?
• Complete the online MHDS program application at www.osfa.mass.edu
• File the 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): www.fafsa.ed.gov
• Send in an official, sealed transcript to:
