HONORS CHEMISTRY HOMEWORK -- REVIEW PROBLEMS

    Name: _________________________________________
Assignment 15a. Review problems:
1. Write out the complete s,p,d,f electron configuration (1s2,2s2, etc.) for chlorine and for germanium.
2.(a). Write out Lewis dot structures for CCl4, for BF3, for PCl5, and for the CO32- ion
2.(b). Use VSEPR theory to predict the molecular shapes of each of the structures you drew in 2(a).
3. A weather balloon is inflated with 40,000 L of helium at 750 mm Hg and 25o C. It is sent aloft to an altitude where the pressure is 0.3 atm and the temperature is -80o C. Find the new volume. SHOW ALL WORK.
4. Find the volume of 56.0 g of SO2 at 1.2 atm and 30o C. SHOW ALL WORK.
5. Find the pH of a 0.006 M HCl solution.

Use your own paper, but please trim off any ragged edges, and please staple multiple pages together.

Assignment 15b. Review problems:
1. A bar of iron reacts with a hydrochloric acid solution in a reaction that produces a solution of iron(III) chloride and hydrogen gas.
(a). Write out a complete, balanced equation for this reaction.
(b). Write out an equilibrium expression for this reaction.
(c). Identify the reducing agent.
(d). Which way will the equilibrium shift if the pressure is reduced?
2. In the above reaction, how many grams of iron would need to react in order to generate 50.0 g of hydrogen gas?
3. In the above reaction, if excess iron reacted with 200 ml of a 0.6 M solution of HCl, find the maximum volume of hydrogen that could be produced at 40o C and atmospheric pressure.
4. If 250 ml of 0.4 M barium nitrate reacts with an excess of sulfuric acid, find the number of grams of precipitate that will form.
