PALEONTOLOGY FIELD TRIPS

Plans Revised Sept. 30

  • All field trip plans are tentative and subject to change.
  • Dates may change.
  • All field trips will take place rain or shine.
  • Three field trips are currently planned, as outlined below.

  • F.T. #1: Connecticut Valley (Dinosaur State Park, Rocky Hill CT) and Yale University (Peabody Museum):
    • Date of Friday October 6 is confirmed through arrangements with our destinations.
    • We will load up at 11:15 a.m. at the loading dock outside the North end of the Ghosh Science & Technology Center. We will leave right after 11:30, so MAKE SURE TO BE ON TIME!
    • Students are expected to bring a box lunch that they can eat on the bus. No lunch will be provided. WSU dining halls will provide box lunches to students who normally eat in the dining halls and who make the necessary arrangements in advance.
    • Return time is uncertain (the Museum closes at 5 p.m.).
    • Any student who wishes to drive themselves should contact Dr. Minkoff as soon as possible; road directions will be provided.
    • Students who want to begin their weekend without returning to Worcester may be dismissed when we are done at the Museum.

  • F.T. #2: Harvard's Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ, 26 Oxford St., Cambridge MA):
    • We will convene at about 12:45 p.m. in front of the Museum and will enter no later than 1:00.
    • Students are responsible for their own transportation, either by car pool or by public transit; directions will be provided for several transportation options.
    • No lunch will be provided. WSU dining halls will provide box lunches to students who normally eat in the dining halls and who make the necessary arrangements in advance.
    • Dismissal will take place in Cambridge; the Museum closes at 5 p.m.

  • F.T. #3: American Museum of Natural History (All-day trip to New York):
    • Probable date is Friday December 8.
    • We will load up at 6 a.m. at the loading dock outside the North end of the Ghosh Science & Technology Center. We will leave promptly at 6:15.
    • Lunch (at the museum) and supper (along the return in Connecticut) will be available for purchase, or you are welcome to bring your own.
    • Because this is an all-day trip, students may miss their other classes on that day and should make appropriate plans with other courses that they may be taking.
    • Return time will be late; exact time is uncertain.
    • Any student who wishes to drive themselves should contact Dr. Minkoff as soon as possible; road directions will be provided; dismissal will take place in New York (the Museum closes at 5 p.m.).
