- EXAM DATES:
- The first exam is scheduled for Friday March 7.
- The final exam is scheduled for Wednesday May 14 at 8:30 a.m.
- SCOPE OF EACH EXAM:
- The first exam will cover class material and readings assigned through March 3.
- The final exam will cover material assigned and discussed after the first exam;
familiarity with material covered on the first exam will be assumed but will not be tested.
- EXAM FORMAT:
Questions will be of the following two types:
- Questions requiring a single word or two-word term as an answer, such as a sentence completion
("fill in the blank") or the name of a scientist.
A word bank will be provided for such questions.
On the first exam, all of the scientists whose names will appear on these questions
will be taken from this list.
- "Free format" questions requiring explanations to be written in your
own words. There may be separate sections for shorter explanations and longer ones.
Some of the questions for the first exam will be taken from
those listed here.
Free-format questions will have many choices, such as answering two questions from a much longer list;
please read the instructions carefully.
- I do not take off for spelling, as long as the word sounds right when pronounced.
- WHAT TO STUDY:
- LECTURE NOTES, INCLUDING THE OUTLINES (AND ILLUSTRATIONS) POSTED ONLINE.
- ASSIGNED READINGS LISTED ON THE SYLLABUS.
- Contributions of the scientists and other thinkers listed here.
- In general, my exams tend to emphasize material covered in class.
Of course, anything also covered in the readings is doubly important!
- If you have any questions about whether a topic will or will not be covered, please
feel free to email me.
- Students who need special accommodations for the exam will receive special instructions via email.
Please make sure that I am aware of your needs.
- If you miss the exam for any reason, it is your responsibility to email me and arrange for a make-up.
