- GEOCHEMICAL CYCLES:
Unlike energy, which escapes from the Earth into space, the chemical materials of our planet remain on the planet and are just recycled.
The recycling of material within planet Earth is called a Geochemical cycle.
The rock cycle (topic 43) is really a geochemical cycle involving mostly silicate minerals.
Other chemical materials form separate geochemical cycles. Some of these cycles are more complex because they involve living organisms.
