Ladd Internships

 

Ladd Internships provide Bates juniors with unique opportunities for paid summer internships in a variety of businesses and institutions, including Lakes Environmental Association, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Peoples Heritage Bank, Rural Community Action Ministry, Solomon Smith Barney, and others. A full listing of Ladd internship opportunities is available in the Office of Career Services. Students may apply for these positions through the OCS by Feb. 26, 1999. Applications must include current resumes, letters of interest, and the names of faculty members who may be contacted for recommendations. Interviews are also required. More information on the Ladd Internship Program is available from the OCS.

Following are examples of Ladd Internships.


Mr. Samuel Anderson '99, an economics major, is a brokerage intern at Bear, Stearns & Company of Boston, Massachusetts.

Ms. Camilla Brooks '00, an East Asian studies major, is interning in many areas– including disaster relief, services to armed forces, blood services, health and safety programs, and international services–for the American Red Cross of Brunswick, Maine.

Ms. Christina Cox '00, a political science major, is also interning in many service programs of the American Red Cross of Ogden, Utah (sponsoring alumna: Julia Groom Thompson '80).

Ms. Abbey DeRocker '99, a double major in economics and environmental studies, is an environmental intern at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency–Region I in Lexington, Massachusetts, where she assists in the planning and implementation of water quality investigations and biological field studies throughout New England (sponsoring parent: Gerald Potomis).

Mr. Cameron Donaldson '99, a biology major, is an intern at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he is working on the conjugations of vaccines (sponsoring alumnus: Dr. Howard I. Scher '72).

Ms. Marian Drake '99, an art major, is an intern at the United Way of Androscoggin County in Lewiston, where she is preparing campaign material and the summer newsletter.

Mr. Woodruff English '99, a political science major, is an intern at Peoples Heritage Bank in Portland, Maine, where he is working on the company's flexible benefits plan program (sponsoring alumnus: Joseph W. Hanson '72).

Mr. Seth Guthartz '99, a religion major, is an intern at the Western Area Agency on Aging in Lewiston, where he assesses the medical and psychosocial needs of homebound consumers.

Mr. Jesse Lynch '00 is a marketing and sales intern for Xerox Corporation of Massachusetts and New Hampshire (sponsoring alumnus: Charles Spano '78).

Mr. Christopher Orpilla '99, an environmental studies major, is a broker intern at Hambrecht & Quist, a brokerage firm in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mr. David Pasco '99, an environmental studies major, is an intern at Lakes Environmental Association in Bridgton, Maine, where he is involved with water quality testing in the Sebago-Long Lake Region.

Mr. Shirl Penney '99, an economics major, is a broker intern at Smith Barney in Portland, Maine (sponsoring alumna: Robin Lin Hodgskin '76).

Mr. Kevin Purvience '00, a biology major, is an environmental intern at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency–Region I in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he assists in the implementation of requirements of the Clean Air Act and other environmental statutes (sponsoring parent: Gerald Potomis).

Ms. Elizabeth Sharp '00 is an intern at Biogen, Inc. of Waltham, Massachusetts, where she is making improvements to the company's sales tracking database (sponsoring alumnus: Michael Bonney '80).

Mr. Davis Silverman '99, a psychology major, is an intern at Walker & Zanger of Mount Vernon, New York (sponsoring alumnus: Jonathan Zanger '79).

Ms. Joanna Stavropoulos '99 is the investment services group intern at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, a brokerage firm in Boston, Massachusetts (sponsoring alumna: Nancy Higgins '81).

Mr. Zachary Vonnegut '99, a religion major, is a program assistant for the Rural Community Action Ministry of Leeds, Maine, where he working on outreach, housing, adolescent pregnancy, and other programs.

Ms. Anna Westberg '99, a psychology major, is an intern as TASIS summer programs in Thorpe, Surrey, England, where she is a counselor/teaching assistant.
