Borrowing Materials
Maine Info Net makes it quick and
easy to
borrow books from participating libraries in the State of Maine through
user-initiated requests, and now
NExpress broadens your book options to
include Wellesley, Williams, and Northeastern University.
In-depth research often requires materials not available at Ladd Library.
Materials may be borrowed from other libraries at no cost. However, obtaining these materials takes special planning;
if you anticipate relying extensively on interlibrary loan materials,
please consult with
Perrin Lumbert,
Interlibrary Loan Assistant, 786-6471, plumbert@bates.edu.
Access to Other Research Libraries
- In Person:
Many major research libraries and archives are closed to the general
public. Library homepages on the WWW will usually list hours and
policies. Students may obtain a letter of introduction from the Bates
College Librarian or Associate Librarian that may allow use of those
collections. If you find that you need access to such a library, please
contact: Gene Wiemers, College Librarian ewiemers@bates.edu
- Via the Web:
You may wish to use Libweb to find and connect
to the online catalogs of other libraries, both in the United States and
abroad.
Special Purchases
Any library patron may make requests for purchase of materials. Materials
are selected for the library collections with certain criteria in mind.
If you feel the library should purchase materials in your research area,
please consult with your advisor and a reference librarian. This does
require planning, as most orders take 6-8 weeks to arrive and be
processed.
