Library Services For Staff
Welcome to the George and Helen Ladd Library.
For Staff :
Borrowing Library Material
Your Bates ID serves as your library card.
You must have this card with you in order to check out
materials.
Loan periods vary by material, i.e., books circulate one year;
sound
recordings, 30 days; and videos, 3 days. All checked out material is
subject to recall.
Renewing Material
Any material checked out for less than one year can be renewed online.
All other Bates materials must be renewed in person at the
Circulation desk with the items in hand.
Request material from Other Libraries
For material that we don't own, other than journal articles,
you can place a request directly through MaineCat or NExpress and
only if not available from these sources should you use Interlibrary loan. For
journal article requests, use the article ILL form once you log in using
your netword username/password.
We will notify you when
the items arrive and hold them for you at the Circulation Desk, except for
journal article requests which will be sent to you electronically.

Contact a reference librarian for help on using the library and its
resources.
For Affiliates: (family members, children under 21)
Borrowing Library Material
Bates IDs are issued by Security and used as library cards.
Book material can be checked out for 28 days and is subject to recall.
Video and sound
recordings must be used in the library.
Renewing Material
All material can be renewed in person at the Circulation Desk or by phone
(207-786-6263) up to 12
renewals.
Computer Use in the Library
Computers in the Library are restricted to those who are doing research
using the Bates catalog, journal indexes, government information and other
electronic collections.
They are not for word processing or Internet searching, per se.
